Prescription refill requests

The physicians and nurse practitioners of Capital Family Practice want to make obtaining refills of your prescription medication as easy as possible. We use electronic prescribing, also known as E-scribe, to write initial and refill your medication.

Our policy is to refill all of your routine medications during your regularly scheduled office visit with enough refills to last until you are due to see us again. However, if you find that you are in need of a refill prior to your next scheduled appointment, you have several options:

1) Request a refill on-line via our patient portal (You must have a portal account. Contact reception if you would like to set one up)

2) Call our office refill line at 703-352-0500

3) Request a refill from your pharmacy. The pharmacy will contact us for approval if needed.

When leaving requests for medication refills on-line or by phone, please include the drug name, dose, frequency and pharmacy. Patients will often have more than one pharmacy on-file. This information will help us make sure you get your medication in the most timely manner.

It is important to know that there are some medications that may not be filled without an office visit. These medications are controlled medications that require a contract with the prescribing provider. These medications include sleeping pills, narcotic pain medication, stimulant medication, and benzodiazipines. All refills for controlled substances require an office visit with the contracted provider and must be by written prescription. In addition, the providers of Capital Family Practice will check the Prescription Monitoring Program database for all written prescriptions of controlled medication.
