What is a Family Nurse Practitioner?

What is a Family Nurse Practitioner?

Nurse Practitioners are qualified medical providers who offer a wide range of services, including the diagnosis and treatment of common as well as more complex medical conditions.  Family Nurse Practitioners are registered nurses with advanced education and clinical training in primary care for people of all ages, from infants through adults.  Our NPs have national certification in Family Practice.  They work autonomously and also with our physicians to provide you with comprehensive and high quality health care.

What Services can my Nurse Practitioner provide?

Nurse Practitioners order and interpret diagnostic tests.  They also diagnose and develop treatment plans for acute and chronic conditions.  NPs prescribe medications, order therapies, such as physical therapy, and refer patients to specialists.  Marie Fugitt NP and Margaret Fritts NP are especially interested in patient education for healthy lifestyles and prevention of diseases.

What else can you tell me about Nurse Practitioners?

As a profession, NPs have existed since 1965 providing excellent care and focusing on a holistic approach.  Additionally, they endeavor to engage the individual in the decision making process which facilitates the development of an individualized and satisfactory health care plan.
