Care of the Circumcised Penis

Care of the Circumcised Penis

Generally, your baby's penis will be covered with petroleum and gauze after his procedure to help prevent the end of the penis from sticking to the diaper.  This should be continued for 3-4 days but usually can then be stopped.

The area should have gentle washing with water daily and any time after a soiled diaper.  You may notice slight swelling of the penis or a small amount of blood at first in the diaper, this is normal.  You can expect the area to heal in about a week.

If your baby has blood in the diaper larger than a quarter, your baby develops a temperature >100.0, redness, swelling or a yellow sticky discharge you should call your provider right away as these could be signs of an infection.
